    Meeting Requests

On my PC I use Outlook with a POP3 account which I've had since about '95 so everyone has that email address. And I have tried a couple of applications syncing my Outlook stuff with my S2, that's not my issue. And I don’t want to upload personal information to a web server especially someone else’s info.

What my issue is, when I receive a meeting request on my phone, I have no way of accepting the request and integrating it with the calendar on my phone. I have tried a couple different applications that are supposed to be all-in-one applications such as Executive Assistant but there’s no way of accepting the meeting through my POP3 account on my phone.

Right now I can manually enter the request into the calendar on my phone when I receive it or wait till I get back to my PC, accept it in Outlook and then sync my phone.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any tweaks or apps that would enable me to do this?

It seems to me quite obvious that Google/Android on purpose make it impossible to sync Outlook with Android completely, so you are forced to use google services, which to me it is somehow uncomfortable to upload so many data in to a web-server which is attractive for hackers, phisers, etc.
If they are not making this on purpose... then blackberry is much more advanced in this matter than android!!

The very reason android exists is open source. Making your system what you want it to be. BB says it must be done a certain way. Maybe that is fine for some. Others like freedom.

K9 is a solid pop3 source mail ap. I use it for my corporate email.

I cannot believe that android users are just accepting the less-than-stellar design and support from Google and giving up on not being able to accept meeting invitations from Outlook. I am taking my phone back. This type of product is absurd if it cannot work with the most used scheduling software (Outlook).

There are ways to get work appointments on your Android device, even if you can't accept them from the device itself. But you probably don't want to hear about them, since they're not "native" solutions.

What is going to end up happening is that people are going to have to move away from Blackberrys because that company is going down fast. A couple of years from now and they will be out of the business.

I do not understand the need to accept a meeting invitation. I have never used it before. What exactly is the hang up?

If you want your Android device to work in a business environment with whatever email/calendar/contacts software your company has, it's a big deal. I don't want to be tied into their system, but I do want all my info (business & personal) on one device. I've had to work very hard at finding a solution that works for me. It's not as elegant as I would like, but it works.

    Mujibar,

Please enlighten a new user. You seem to have found a solution. I do not want to go back to a blackberry, but I must be able to manage my calendar remotely in a business environment.

My company uses Google Apps, so I assumed an Android solution would be a slam dunk. Apparently not, because most business computers use Outlook, and Android will not let me process a meeting invitation sent from outlook to Google Apps or gmail.

My clock is ticking before my 30-day buyers remorse window expires.

I use CompanionLink on the computer paired with DejaOffice on the handheld. CL is the sync conduit that pulls calendar & contact data from the work setup, which happens to be GroupWise (yuck), and puts it on the phone into the DJO app. This means that all appointments have to first be accepted & rejected on the computer. That may not work for your needs, but I don't need or want to be *directly* tied into my work system.
