USB device not recognized.

Phone: Verizon Samsung Fascinate (My mothers)
Rom: Long ago I flashed a froyo rom called a Community Rom 2.0, UKB, PBJ -50.

Issue: Trying to get the phone to be recognized via USB. I'm failing on my Laptop and a Desktop PC both running Win7 64bit. My mother damaged the original cable that came with the phone. We ordered a new Factory cable just to make sure, but still no luck. I will normally get the error USB device not recognized or something like that. Mounting USB storage has no effect. Also I get the same error when in download mode with odin running. I have tried both computers for hours trying to get it to work.

Edit: The phone will charge via the usb cable.

File name of the Drivers I have tried:
Samsung_Mobile_USB_Driver_V1.3.550.0_SCH-i500_Fascinate.msi
and
SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones

I don't know it is problem with the os on the phone, or if the usb hardware in the phone is damaged. I want to flash back to stock but unless I could do it from the memory card (is this possible) then I'm screwed.

any idea what I could try.

I flash firmwares from my phone using Mobile Odin Pro from the Market, but I am not sure if it is compatible with your phone. Compatible devices should be listed under the description in the Market.
