No Google Apps after CM7.1.0 Flash + Gapps

I have just flashed my Samsung Fascinate from stock to cyanogenmod 7.1.0 using the stickied guide in this forum. I then flashed the correct gapps.zip but nothing happened. It just boots to cm7 and doesn't ask for a google account. I have tried going to settings-accounts and sync but there is no option to setup a google account. I have tried to manually download the google play apk and gmail apk but they will not startup, they just flash an error message quickly and close. I have tried to reflash cm7 multiple times along with gapps to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

Does the GApps flash say it completed successfully?

I finally got it working by reverting back to completely stock Fascinate on Gingerbread and redoing the whole install process. Mods can close this thread
