Yes I've just come across this problem. It's not rooted and I'm not able to root it via my laptop as it still doesn't detect the phone. I came across a method of rooting without the need of a pc on the xda but it seems to be defunct and now not supported. Do you have any other ideas? So frustrating!

I haven't ever seen a recovery mode like yours. I am interested in the update from cache. Never heard of it. A normal recovery doesn't have this. At least not on my phone. I wonder if you can flash a stock rom through it?

Is it that different from updating from SD card?
I've downloaded the official stock firmware (I9100XWKE2_I9100XXKDJ_I9100XEUKD1.tar)... would you recommend I give it a go? Is there any chance of bricking the phone? How do I put it on the cache?

I really appreciate your help by the way Ollie.

When you tried your flatmates computer, did you install Samsung Kies on it? Also, without your phone plugged into the PC, have you tried entering download mode and then plugging it into the PC? There are stand alone driver packages that you can download as well. Have you tried them?

Right now your phone is functional and I am not sure if flashing a firmware in the recovery that you have will work. There is only one way to find out lol.

I would keep pecking away at the driver issue myself. I know it is frustrating, but something has got to give.

You are more than welcome for the help. I wish I had a definite solution for you, but I have never seen your recovery options before.

Forgot to mention...be absolutely positive that Kies is not running in the background while using Odin. Launch your taskmanager and disable any Kies, Allshare etc processes.

    Other things to try...
Find a different version of Odin, find someone with a Mac and use Heimdall, launch Odin as administrator(by right clicking the exe).

Not sure if your problem has been solved ....

I recently used this webpage [FW][ODIN] Newest Stock Firmware - XWLPG - Nordic (Unbranded) - 1 June 2012 - xda-developers and had success ... One can change the stock ROM and Root it with no stress or pain ...

I had the same issue after flashing the 4.3.1 cyanogenmod rom on my G-S3. It ended up being a driver issue; flashing the rom seemed to change the drivers on my pc so it would still show up as a media device once connected via USB but not on Odin. Using System Restore on my PC to before flashing the rom fixed it right up.

    Hope this helps!
