    Can't connect to Odin

Hey guys, please help me - I've been stuck for days

I flashed to the newest leaked ice cream sandwich firmware for my sg2 without looking into it much (i.e. not realising it was going to be so buggy and crap for day-to-day use), and have been stuck with it for weeks now and really want to flash back to original samsung android 2 firmware!

I've done everything right as far as I know and looked at 23874928374 forum threads about the subject but odin won't show my phone (it doesn't even make the usb sound when a connect the phone to the pc).

    Cable is official samsung
Latest drivers installed (updated a few times)
    usb debugging on
    enters download mode fine
tried leaving battery out for an hour
tried holding power button with battery out to lose residual charge
tried with full charge, tried with moderate charge
tried installing drivers and connecting on flatmate's laptop, same problem

The stupid thing is that I [obviously] connected it to Odin to flash it to android 4 a few weeks ago, but now it just wont work!
At one point it would show in odin when *not* in download mode but pretty sure that's no use.
Also at once point it detected it and I was just about to click 'start' but 20 seconds after it connected, it disconnected. Tried again straight after and it lasted even less time.

Is there anything else I can try before I breakdown in tears?
    Any help much appreciated!

I read something about copying files to phone memory to update firmware or something, but I wasn't quite sure what to do, can it be done with this method?
I was also not sure if wiping disk / disk cache would make a difference?
    Thank yooou!

*edit: I just tried again after posting using every trick in the book (that I've read) and it once again connected to odin for all of about 15 seconds before disconnecting :[

Did you end up with a Clockwork Mod recovery? If you boot you phone in recovery mode...volume up+home+power button you will have a custom recovery that lets you flash the stock rom for your phone. Or you will have the factory recovery.

Which version of the phone do you have?

In your settings menu there may be a section for device storage that will allow you to mount your phones drive and be recognized by your computer.

You can also look into using ADB on your PC to access the phone. It doesn't have a pretty user interface like Odin, but is a powerful application.

    thanks for your help...

In the recovery menu, options are:
    -reboot
    -apply update from external storage
    -wipe data / factory reset
    -wipe cache
    -apply update from cache
    -test redbend fota[FS]

is the factory reset option actually that? i.e. will it flash to original android or just wipe user data?

and can the 'apply update from ext storage' be used to flash to android 2?

I couldn't find any options to mount the phone's drive

    Thanks again

Factory resetting the phone will not roll you back to Gingerbread.

Redbend fota? Do you have a Sprint SGS2?

No it's a UK version (o2 but unlocked). When I downloaded it it just said it had to be UK version [build is XXKPA]. Model number is GT-I9100

Here is a link to a mobile version of Odin: Chainfire has released Mobile ODIN for Galaxy Note and SGS2 - xda-developers

The developer is very respected in the SGS2 community. I have never used it before so be sure to read it thoroughly. I can't think of any other way short of getting your drivers to act properly.

Mobile Odin does require root and I am not sure if your firmware was rooted.
