Rooting / Benefit and Flashing Rom

Hi all! After considering the potential of rooting. Might I know that how good will rooting do? Such as battery life and some other performances and awesome things you could do. But I'm mainly concern for battery life.

What about custom rom like CM7 or 9? Will flashing them even better at saving my juice or just root and use stock rom?

However I'm pretty new to it and was wondering how to do it? Is there any universal steps for Galaxy S2?

Rooting just opens up your room for even more customization than you already have.

You can download a CPU app that allows you to lower your CPU speed (to save battery), apply some tweaks to your phone's build properties (build.prop) and also backup apps and data!

The biggest draw towards rooting for me is the ability to make a true backup. For instance, if you backup your phone with Samsung Kies you are really only getting a fraction of your phone's data saved. A Nandroid backup saves everything from widget positions, wallpapers, game's data, etc. Whatever state your phone was in at the time of the Nandroid is the exact state it returns to when you restore from the Nandroid.

As far as battery life goes roms can definitely help as they are tweaked to lengthen battery times. It is usually a huge bonus if the kernel and rom are stable.

I won't go into too hardcore on customizing this and that. I would have if it was me 3 years ago!

I agree regarding the backing up ability as Kies only provide a small part of phone backup which is very annoying during the firmware update. I'm guessing S2 might not be receiving any more or major firmware update. Maybe Jellybean prehaps? Since this phone will soon be over take by others new model.

Yep I heard of such cpu app and things like kernel and rom. Hence I'm very curious how much can rooting aid in battery saving? Is it worth to? If so, how do I go about rooting it? It seems like there is a lot of method!

The S2 is supposed to receive JellyBean.

Which model of the phone do you have?

Rooting the i9100 is super easy. You flash CF-Root using Odin 1.85 which leaves you with your current firmware intact with root privaleges added.

Then if you want to modify anything else on your phone it is done straight on the phone.

I flashed CF Root, the appropriate version LBP. However after flashing via Odin 1.85. I got the Samsung S2 screen with the yellow triangle and hence after... Blank screen...

Anyway I flashed back Stock Kernel now and I'm able to get pass now. I wasn't expecting after flashing stock kernel, I'm able to retain the Superuser ability, just that I wasn't able to use CMW due to the incompatibility with kernel.

Have I succeeded entering the forbidden garden? Let the matter rest while I explore the capability of rooting?

A lot of people flash back to the stock kernel to remove the triangle. You are just flashing the insecure kernel to inject root.

Simple test...download root explorer from the market and launch it. It should prompt you to allow super user rights.

Either that or install Titanium Backup.
