Galaxy SII from TMobile or International Unlocked

    Hello everyone-

This will be my first smart phone in a while after owning a Blackberry for short time. I'm wondering if would be worth the extra $$$ to get an unlocked version, or just a TMobile one with at a discounted price and then unlock it later?

Thanks very much for your replies.

Hi, there! Welcome to the forum!

We have one Rescue Squad member who bought an unlocked international GS2 and uses it on AT&T. He can speak to that when he gets back on the site.

If you buy the T-Mobile version and unlock it, won't you be unlocking a phone that can only use Tmobile's 3G network? They don't use the same frequencies as everyone else in the world. I don't think the international version is set up for Tmo either. It's like people that bring an unlocked iPhone to T-Mobile. Edge network only. I'd have to see the Tmo SGS2 frequencies.

Ok. The unlocked T-Mobile phone supports AT&T's 3G, but the International version cannot get Tmo's 3G because Tmo used the 1700 frequency. If you plan on ever using the phone with Tmo do not buy the International unless you are content with being on their slow internet.

Thanks very much for your reply. I guess it looks like I would be better off with the international version at least I would have choice to go to AT&T, and a faster network.

    thanks again.

If you go to AT&T with the International version you have to use an imei number from a different 4G phone to be able to use their 4G and have them put you on the 4G plan. If you are not in a 4G market you don't have to worry about it because it works on their 3G network out of the box. As soon as I put my AT&T sim card into it the phone automatically picked up the APN settings. Since I live in a 4G area I took the imei number off of a Samsung Infuse 4G floor model phone in the store and they entered that into my account. Our imeis are not recognized by AT&T's computers and can't simply be put on the 4G plan.

Thanks Ollie for great info. I'm not sure at this time being on a 4G network is imperative for me. Right now I'm on H2O wireless as I wanted to use my Sony Ericsson C902, and I like the fact I'm not tied to any contracts.
