CWM issue for int'l version of SGS2

    Hi there..

I have an SGS2, int'l version, firmware version JPKJ2, and it is rooted using Intratech's technique at the XDA forums.

Recently, I was reading about NANDROID backups, (I'm developing an interest in custom ROMs since I'm getting bored with the stock one), and decided to try it out. I installed Rom Manager, flashed CWM, booted into recovery, but got the error something about failure in signature verfication, and got to the stock recovery (e3 or sumthing).

I've read others having the same issue, but also have read that the solution varies from device to device..... Correct me if I'm wrong... Sooo... Can somebody tell me what to do to get CWM working properly??

I know this issue is a repeated one, but I am a sort of a noob interested about these things.... So, sorry about this.

The problem is that rom mangler is not optimized for our phones. When you flashed the rooted kernel onto your phone you had a custom version of CWM built for our phones.

The solution is very simple. Reflash the kernel again while in download mode (volume down+home key+power button) and it will put our recovery back onto the phone.

Then everything is done through it including the Nandroids. You can use Rom mangler to boot into recovery more quickly than the button method, but don't use it for anything else.

To create a nandroid you boot into recovery and select backup from there.

There is a newer version somewhere that plays nice with our phones, but since our custom CWM works just fine I never looked into it.

What you did was flash a stock recovery that is very limited in its use.

So what I have to do is to reflash the insecure kernel but not flash the stock.... In that case, I'd be left with the yellow warning triangle.... Any way to remove it?

Yes reflash the insecure kernel that has the cfroot package and then reflash the stock kernel to get rid of the triangle. You will keep root and CWM, but get rid of the triangle.

Just don't flash any recoveries through Rom manager.

The way I remove my triangle is by rebooting my phone with my USB jig plugged into it.

May I please have the link to the CF-ROOT file for KJ2? I was previously rooted using the insecure kernel provided by Odia at XDA since that was what Intratech had instructed.
