before I got my galaxy noteI had an SII which my wife now has. Neither of has any complant about the phone. Its price has dropped since I first got it and it is definitely worth it if you can't afford or don't want a galaxy note or SIII both of which have a larger screen.
I also had a SII before and never had a complaint from anyone about call quality.

I suffered from a real bad signal, was with "3" for nearly 7 years or so and all the time they kept telling me that "an engineer is working on the cell in my area and allow a little time" tried new simm cards, new phones and then decided in the end that I'd just swap network to "vodafone" and yip same thing, (I was hoping that the 2g that they offered at the time would have helped me as all I wanted to do was stay connected to a call) in the end I went for a "sure signal" you hook it up to your network and it basicaly creates a "node/cell" at home for you to connect to, I know this is swaying away from your question but now all my calls are crystal clear, I've just bought a S2 and haven't made or received many calls...(Typical eh!) but at home with the sure signal and also out and about the quality of the calls have been great!
Hope that helps.

I have always had great call quality on all of my Samsung phones.
Some users reported echoing, but I never experienced it.

Living dangerously, to me, is eating spaghetti with a white shirt on.
I'd never put it down to the phone though, rather the signal, the nearest mast, reception, which network is piggy backing on another's....but the phone so far, awesome, love it. (and it's typical that I haven't made many phone calls on it..lol)

There is no bad signal in call. The sound in call is cleare. I didnt get any problem in my s2. There are few sets in the markets which has some defaults.
