Nuisance (empty) voicemails but no missed calls

Am getting so annoyed. About two months ago I started receiving texts saying I had new voicemail but each time when I dial 901 the voicemail is usually empty and it does not give me the normal delete option. My phone does not ring so presume these messages are by spammers who can somehow send direct to voicemail.

I receive legitimate phone calls from friends ok and on the odd occasion I miss their call and it ends up going to voicemail I can pick that message up fine and then delete it etc. With the nuisance messages it's as if my normal voicemail options have been taken over.

Does anyone else have experience of this and is there anyway round it? I have turned voicemail off today out of frustration but it's not the ideal answer. Obviously, I do not have a sender's number.

I am guessing the only answer is to try and change my phone number.

get a real voice mail clear your box out. sounds as though you have an old deleted one
