    Screen shuts off when phoning

I arrived at the Galaxy S2 via the iPhone 3GS. On that phone if the screen turned off while i was talking, I could restart it by shaking the phone.

With the Galaxy S2, the screen goes dark, and can't make it light up again. This is annoying if I want to input something with the keypad, of want to switch to speakerphone.

How can I correct this? Is there a setting somewhere that I haven't found, or do I have a defective phone?

The screen has a proximity sensor that shuts the screen down while it next to your face. It should light back up once you pull it from your face and don't have anything close to the proximity sensor. Occasionally a click of the power button while the screen is off will bring it back up to input numbers.

It's the proximity sensor, working as it was intended. If you take the phone away from your face and lightly press the volume key, it should turn the screen back on.

Is there any setting where I can turn this feature off? I really don't mind having the screen lit while I'm talking.

If phone only goes black while at your ear, it is the proximity sensor, and works as it should. This prevents accidently tapping buttons or hanging up on calls...

However, once phone is pulled away, screen should come back on. Issue I have is that if I am using headphones or Bluetooth headset, screen still goes black after a certain time. Only way to "wake" it is tapping power button, which is hard, dangerous and just stupid while driving (or running...)

I think you can change timeout time in phone settings...in car I use dock. Have it set to never time out when docked and plugged in to car dock. .

There is a app called screebl. There is a lite, pro and beta version. Both the lite and pro have a option to allow the screen to stay on while up to your ear. I have used this app everyday for about a year now and highly recommended it.

    Hi
just go the galaxy s2 and found the exact same problem, I am not a clever person at all so found your forum to find out why this was happening to me - in so doing I realised it was the special galaxy s2 case that I bought with it at the time - it actually covers the head sensor thing so turns the screen off immediately so new case or make a hole where it needs to be - check it out you lot the sensor is top left a little way in - put your finger on it and screen turns off take it off and screen turns on
