    [READ FIRST]Help Us Help You!!

Hello fellow GS II owners(ok, so I have evolved slightly, I have a Skyrocket, we're still kin right?)!!

As I look at the forums and watch folks post problems they are having with their wonderful Galaxy S II phones, I cannot help but notice that sometimes, teeth have to be pulled and blood has to be shed to get some information out of folks in an effort to assist you with your phone woes. The more information we have on hand, the better we can help you, in the shortest and most concise way possible. Everyone has a life, and better things to do than to mess with their semi functioning phone.

Samsung, the wonderful mobile phone maker they are, has made a TON of versions of the Galaxy S II. No, I mean, even Cellular One has a version(though I am not sure it has been released, which I cannot find specs on GSMArena). I kid you not!! Plus there are various International versions of the phone. If you can help us in the first post by laying down some basic information about the phone you have, that can speed the process up in an effort to help you out as quick as we can to get you back to using the phone that you love. Is it tedious? Yeah, a little. But it is worth a little bit of effort.

At the bottom of the post is a list of phones that I was able to gather. If your phone is not on there, it is even more important that we have this information.

With that being said, here is always a good place to start:

You're phone's information! Go to Settings > About Phone (this can be found all the way at the bottom of the menu by scrolling down.)

    Carrier: AT&T
    Model Number: SAMSUNG-SGH-I727
Android version: 2.3.5 (Back to stock for now)
    Baseband version: I727UCLE2
    Kernel version: 2.6.35.11
    Build number: GINGERBREAD.UCKJ2

That right there gives R/S enough information to start to dissect what could be wrong with you phone based on what you tell me.

    Are you rooted?

What were you doing at the time it starting going haywire?

Here are some random and helpful notes in regards to the plethera of Samsung Galaxy S II Phones -

    United States
    SGSII-I777 AT&T (Attain)
    SGSII-T989 T-Mobile (Hercules)
SGSII-D710 Sprint (Within, EPIC 4G Touch)
    SGSII-i727 AT&T (Skyrocket) (LTE)
    SGSII-I727HD? AT&T (Skyrocket HD) (LTE)

    Canada
    SGSII-4G Virgin Mobile, Bell
    SGSII-i727R Rogers (S II LTE)
    SGSII-T989D Telus (X T989D)
SGSII-I9100 Telus **Technically, I think this is a world phone, supporting all the frequencies in the US, and sharing with other world phones, with support for Telus frequencies.**

    China
    SGSII-I929 China Telecom (Duos)

    International/World
    SGSII-I9210 (LTE)
    SGSII-E120S (HD LTE)
SGSII-I9100 As noted above, added support for Telus.

This post was made some time ago and I have not updated it. I will look in to doing that, right now I don't have the time as their are A LOT of versions of the SGS2.

To figure out which phone you have go to Settings > About phone and in there it should tell you the model number and android version.

Every time you post a question that pertains to your phone (until we get to know you better) that information is useful. It points me in a solid direction to start looking for answers.

Rooting as the terms is called, is gaining "administrative" permissions to all parts of the OS on the phone. This includes areas of the phone that cannot normally be accessed. Root is not given straight from the manufacturer because you can, if careless, ruin your phone with these permissions. However, rooting your phone also lets you do some pretty cool things like run apps that are extremely useful such as some select backup tools among other things.
