Because I have a phone exactly like his and would like to attempt doing the upgrade.

Yes, there is an ICS for TTT. You can use any open firmware as well. I had your version of the S2.

Make a backup first. Do a factory data reset. Flash the ICS in Odin. Reboot and do another factory data reset. Then restore from the backup.
