    Guys,
I'm still here! Sorry for the delay. In fact, I haven't yet done the upgrade due to the fact I was travelling. When I got back my UPS (no-break) went down and I was worried abot a power outage in the middle of the update.
Another thing - I discovered that doing this will wipe all your apps, so here's a tip: I used the screen capture to go through my list of apps (active applications / downloaded apps) to take a snapshot page by page, so I can download them all again after upgrading. Oh yeah...my router went belly up too, so I wouldn't have been able to download the apps on a 3G connection!!!
Well, I'm gonna go for it TOMORROW - so I'll keep you all posted either way!!
    Cheers all!
    Dave

Hey Dave! Check out the app called Appsaver. It lets you chose which apps you want to save and it drops their apks into a folder that you can move to the external. Afterwards you simply browse to that folder and reinstall them again. It does not save app data though. Mybackup Pro should though.

Thanks for the heads up, Ollie! I'll check it out tomorrow before doing the upgrade. I can see I've opened up a can of worms here! I'll keep you all posted.

One other thing, I understood what Marcelo was saying....he was just asking to be kept in the frame as he'd bought a phone like mine from Paraguay and couldn't get updates either...

Marcelo - pode ficar sossegado que eu te dou um update aqui assim que fizer a atualização, falou!

    • Download the above firmware package and unzip it to a place you can easily find it on your PC.
    • Ensure nothing Samsung Kies related is running in the background of your PC. (Check the Task Manager!)
    • Do not have your phone plugged into your PC via USB.

    1. On your PC, right-click the Odin 1.85.exe and select Run As Administrator.
    2. Completely power off your phone.
    3. While holding the Volume Down button on your phone, press and hold the Power Button as well.
    4. A screen will appear asking you to confirm your decision to enter Download Mode. Press Volume Up to confirm. (If you change your mind, press and hold just the Power Button and the phone will exit Download Mode and reboot normally.)
    5. Plug your phone into your computer with the factory supplied USB cable. It may try to install some drivers. If it does let it finish completely.
    6. Odin will recognize your phone which is indicated by the top-left box in Odin turning yellow and ID COM displaying some numbers.
    7. If this doesn't happen then start over from the beginning.
    8. On the bottom right hand side of Odin select the PDA button.
    9. Navigate to the Unzipped file that you downloaded earlier. Select it.
    10. Press the Start button in Odin and let the phone reboot on its own. Do not unplug your phone until it has rebooted or you risk hard bricking it.
Okay Ollie, I'm ready to go, but am unsure about which files to use and where. In the OPEN EUROPE folder there are 3 files. Do I need all of them? What's the difference between using PDA and BOOTLOADER, PHONE and MODEM etc...I've tried researching this on YouTUbe and the net, but the wealth of conflicting info has got me in doubt....
Also - what's the deal with the 'repartition' box in Odin - some say NOT to check it, others Say check it....?

    Once again - Thanks!!!!

    Dave

Hey everybody - just to let you know....I finally did the update to ICS 4.0.3 using one of the stock ROMS Ollie posted. I had the same doubt as Elma (above), so I decided to use the "open Brazil" ROM because it was a single file and I thought there was less chance of any problems that way!

I put the single file in the "PDA" and it worked great - my phone is working fine and I dodn't lose ANY apps, so that saved a lot of time. I just had to reorganize everything.

One thing I learned....it seems you have to open the "task manager" and kill the 3 KIES applications running on your computer before you do the upgrade (even with KIES closed, they run in the background). If you don't do this, apparently, KIES can block the upgrade and BRICK the phone...

Well - there goes. IMO it's worthwhile - good luck to you all!

    Cheers!

    Dave

Elma - I'm no expert, from what I saw

Se você puder comentar seus resultados eu agradeço.

Cara - fiz a atualização para ICS utilizando o ROM brasileiro que Ollie Postou aqui. 4.0.3.
deu tudo certo - nem perdi os APPS. Valeu!

Yeah sorry - Elma - from what I saw, you need all 3. The main one in PDA, the first one on your list goes in "CSC", and the file with "modem" in the name goes in "PHONE"
I saw a bunch of guys doing this on the YouTube videos...but like I said, I'm no expert - so best wait for Ollie!

    Cheers!
