    Backup before rooting

With an UNrooted Android phone, what exactly should one back up before rooting .. and how best to create the backup?

Does it depend on the phone make/model .. or is it generically applicable?

On the phone in question (T-mobile Galaxy S4G), under SETTINGS/PRIVACY there are two items checked:

    Back up my data
    Automatic restore

and I ASSUME that is to my GOOGLE/GMAIL account (cloud backup)??????????

I'm getting ready to root this phone and am highly confused on backup AND restore .. before/after rooting.

    Thanks in advance.

this is a great product .. better (I think) than Titanium Pro (REQUIRES Root) .. in that it will do a (limited) backup UNrooted or a more full backup if ROOTED. It also appears to be easier to use.

So .. I am gettin ready to 'try something out'. I sense SUPERONECLICK is not (very) advised by this website. I have a proven/different procedure to ROOT this S4G but from what I can tell, it can (now) be done with recent version of SUPERONECLICK ... and I am going to give THAT a try (much simpler procedure).

Again, .. I have seen forum experts advise AGAINST Superoneclick and I totally respect that but I am inclined to try it because:

    It has been updated.
His website clearly lists my phone
There is a reply on his website from a TMOBILE user who says it worked perfectly.

So if I don't get a strong 'objection' (all things considered) from an expert here, I think I will give it a try.

Well, you're right when you say we all advise AGAINST using SuperOneClick. (you're really asking for trouble) Especially since the rooting process is so simple, why take a chance of ending up with a fancy paper weight.
Good luck though and let us know how you make out!

That's strong enough for me!! You guys are the best, and I just thought it MIGHT be a good idea BY NOW (change of attitude since updates). I see that is not the case .. so no superoneclick for me. Thank you.

    1. Many people use Super One Click and never have any problems.
    2. Many people use Super One Click and have major problems.

Just the fact that #2 even exists is why I prefer to go the manual route. It makes you more aware of how the phone actually works which in turn broadens your knowledge for any other modifications you make after rooting.

It's alot akin to have a great computer, but only surfing the net on it. If you don't poke it with a stick then you won't really fully understand it.

NO argument from me. I hear you both loud and clear. I just thought since I have everything for doing it 'manually', it would be safe to TRY S1C ... kinda like "poking around" the 'rooting' world. Thanks to this website, I know how to root my phone (manual) .. thought I would 'learn' something else. But I give heed to both of your views and take your advice. thank you both, indeed.
