    External sounds with headset

    Carrier: T-Mobile
    Model Number: SAMSUNG-SGH-T989
    Android version: 2.3.6
    Baseband version: T989UVLDE
    Kernel version: 2.6.35.11
    Build number: GINGERBREAD.UVLDE

Rooted: NO NO NO NO NO (sorry, NOT voiding brand new warranty)

First of all, bear with me...I upgraded yesterday from a MyTouch 3G Slide to this phone. So I am pretty lost in the thing. BUT...I must fix this sound problem right away.

When I am listening to music with my bluetooth or plug in headset if I get an email, text or chat message the phone speaker still makes noise (and it cuts over top of my music in my headset as well). That is NOT cool where I work!!!!! How do I make it stop?? Do I have to go into all apps and make notification noises go away completely? I like getting sounds when I'm not using the headset but I haven't found a place to make sound profiles or anything.

Oh, PS...same problem with my husband's S3 if anyone knows about those.

Right now I have it on silent mode completely so that I don't get in trouble at work. But I'd rather it just shut up when I turn on the headset.

Thanks to anyone with ideas on this.

You may be able to look into apps like Tasker, Llama, etc. I think they are "if", "when", "and" profile capable. Your husband can look into NFC tags that provide the functionality as well since he has NFC built in.

Thanks. But no, I'm not going to download something to fix a problem that shouldn't exist.

    Any other ideas?

You asked about sound profiles so I suggested a profiling app. Not only are they profile capable, they are location aware... Meaning it is an automated process.

Try going into your volume settings, you can turn off your "notification" sounds by sliding the volume slider all the way to the left. That should work, but if it doesn't, you'll probably have to go into your email, sms, etc and turn off individual notifications. Not sure why the notification sounds are coming out of your phone speaker with the headphones plugged in....have you tried a different set of headphones? Otherwise, you could download one of the apps Ollie suggested.

    Good luck!

There is also a quick and simple way to disable notification sounds by tapping your volume button and selecting the icon on the right of the volume toast message that pops up.

As far as I can tell, Llama can turn the notifications off when you plug in headphones, but it doesn't have another option for allowing the notifications to play in your headset alone.

There is a app that will quickly solve the issue. Try downloading free version of SoundAbout.
