If you navigate to your phone's dcim folder using Windows, while the phone is plugged in to your PC, you can select as many as you want.
Yes, you can transfer pictures to your external sdcard using a file explorer on your phone. There are many to choose from (EsExplorer, Root Explorer, Solid Explorer, Astro, etc) and your phone should already have one installed.
While inside of the dcim folder in your phone long press a photo and select "move". Then navigate to your external card and choose the directory to move them to.

Living dangerously, to me, is eating spaghetti with a white shirt on.
I have a similar problem with transferring via the USB cable.
I upgraded my Galaxy S2 firmware recently.
Now, I can't connect the S2 to my PC to transfer files (via USB from
the PC to the phone).
When I connect the phone via the USB cord, I get a pop-up window
titled "Camera Connected".
Within the window I see a list of selections related to a Canon camera.
BEFORE the firmware upgrade, I used to be able to connect via USB to
transfer files.
Now, I can't even find "USB connectivity" options on my phone's new menu.
What am I missing here?
Thank you.
Pull down your notification bar and look there when you are connected via USB. Select the USB notice.

I'm having the same problem but there is nohing in the notification center for the phone.
Yes, Ollie, I used to see an option to select "USB" from the drop-down notification bar while my S2 was connected via the USB cable to my PC.
However (since the latest firmware upgrade), now my PC thinks I'm connecting a camera instead of a phone.
All I really want to do is navigate to my DCIM directory on my phone to organize photos.
This is way too frustrating.
Thanks.
