Hi guys , im new here so i don't know if i posted in the right topic.

    I have a problem with my GalaxyS2 I-9100

I've tried to downgrade my s2 from ICS 4.0.3 to Gingerbread 2.3.4 because i had a problem with battery (Charching paused, Voltage too high), but while downgroading it i've had another problem.

Now my phone shows this "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.

Please can anybody help me how can i return back my phone like earlier. If you need any information about my S2 to help about my problem please tell me.

Ollie, please HELP! I had the upgrade issue as others. I tried to follow your steps but Odin1.85 doesn't recognize my phone (Samsung GT-i9100, Sprint, USA). I installed drivers from Samsung website and restarted my computer, still the same. Please HELP me! Thank you very much!

Try a different USB port. Also could try different cables.

I tried to upgrade to ICS on my skyrocket sgh-i727 and it failed
i had unlocked my phone earlier and it was rooted

I am not sure if usb debugging was on or not when i was upgrading to ics using kies

now it only shows the following screen
    --------------------------------------
    ODIN MODE
    Product name: SGH-I727
    Custom Binary Download: No
    Current Binary: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL

Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Pleae select recovery mode in Kies and try again
    -----------------------------------

I tried recovering it using Kies but it did not work,
Then I tried to use ODIN to upgrade firmware, but my phone doesnt go in download mode at all:
(steps for download mode: press volume up and down simultaneously and plug in the USB -- It comes with a message
A custom OS can cause critical problems in phone and installed applications
If you want to download custom OS, press the volume up key, otherwise press the volume down key to cancel.
I press volume up and it again goes back to the same screen - ODIN MODE)
ODIN recognizes my phone (i get a yellow indicator on com5).
I tried to push a tar without the download mode on my phone and it gets stuck on Setup Connection

    Please help

Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: I727UCLF6_I727ATTLF6_ATT.zip
That's the link Ollie is talking about here for your firmware. It worked! Thanks so much for the help.

Download the firmware you have been linked to.

Then you should download 7Zip with which you will extract your firmware one time. You can get 7Zip here: 7-Zip

You will end up with a single tar file. This tar file will be sent to your phone using Odin 1.85. You can find Odin here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...3&d=1304094576

Extract Odin one time as well.

Once everything is finished downloading and you have installed 7Zip on your PC extract the Odin download and the firmware download into your new folder.

    1. Unplug your phone from your PC.
    2. Turn off the phone and then reboot it by using the following button combination: press and hold the Volume Down, the Home Button, and the Power Button at the same time until the phone reboots.
    3. On your PC launch Odin by right clicking it and selecting Run as Administrator. Make sure nothing Samsung related is running in the background of your PC. Check your task manager!
    4. Plug your phone into your PC using the factory supplied USB cable that came with the phone. Do not plug it into a USB hub. If your computer starts installing some drivers at this point then let it finish!
    5. In Odin, you will see the top left box turn yellow and ID Com will display a random number. This means Odin has recognized your phone. If it doesn't then start over from Step 1.
    6. In Odin make sure that the only things check marked are Auto Reboot and F Reset. Select the PDA button on the bottom right and target the .tar file that you downloaded and extracted earlier.
    7. Press Start. Be certain not to interrupt the process and when it is finished the phone will reboot on its own. It could take a few minutes for the phone to rebuild the caches so be patient.

If the phone gets stuck on the Samsung boot screen then reboot into recovery and perform a factory data wipe. Recovery is Volume Up+Home+Power Button. Navigate with the volume keys and make your selection with a tap of the power button.

My problem was resolved by using a different PC.
Initially I had tried with 2 PCs but it did not work and kept coming up with message 'No PIT partition found'
    or
    <ID:0/005> Firmware update start..
    <ID:0/005> boot.img
    <ID:0/005> Complete(Write) operation failed.

This new PC doesnt have antivirus installed. I had tried disabling antivirus on prev 2 PCs but it still dint work on those

Well, you have officially saved my butt. I managed to screw my phone up in less than 24hrs of having it in my hands. I was attempting to root it so that I could use an app to unlock my Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.. If anyone happens to know how to do that WITHOUT the root (which I am apparently unable to do) then please help! Thanks!
