At&t texted me saying that the ics upgrade was available for samsung galaxy s2 SKYROCKET. I followed the directions for upgrading and all of a sudden there was this error. It told me to disconnect my phone take out the battery and put it on again. This message appeared..Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.

Hi I've got this exact same issue. Rec'd the text tried to update my phone and got the firmware upgrade encountered an error. Odin Mode is in red. I've downloaded Odin 1.85, but I'm trying to find firmware for my model SGH-I727.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm in the USA & carrier is ATT

I downloaded stock firmware and ran odin 1.85. It sees my phone, but the stock firmware is an md5 file and not tar (unless they're the same). Anyways Odin appears to be stuck at <ID:0/003> boot.img Everything is greyed out except I can scroll up & down in the msg box. How long is this supposed to take? Also, is the download screen where it shows a picture of the device yellow triangle then a pc with the error below?

Sometimes Odin has hiccups. It should be a tar file. Sometimes it will have md5 at the end.

OK folks! There is a thread on XDA in regards to things to try when Odin is acting a little special...

IF ODIN IS NOT RECOGNISING OR HANGS WHEN CONNECTING TO YOUR PHONE OR POSTS AN ERROR IN THE ODIN MESSAGE SCREEN:

• if the phone boots into any rom, make sure windows can transfer from and to internal and external sdcards to rule out driver issues

• does kies recognize your phone, even if you are on a custom rom kies will recognize your phone, this rules out driver issues

• make sure you are in download mode on your phone

• make sure adb or kies is not runnung in the background

• restart computer

• make sure battery is charged

• try different usb port, preferably the rear ones on computer

• use original samsung usb cable, or try different cable but still oem

• uninstall/reinstall drivers

• try a different computer

This comes on off the How To thread in regards to restoring to factory.

I am downloading the stock firmware now to try on my Skyrocket and see if it works out. Every times I try to update to ICS I get an error as well.
