I don't know how it is being downloaded, or by who.

It mainly seems to appear after I've been browsing on the Net. First warning I get is the Notification download arrow on top of my screen.

Is there a way to find out? (An easy to follow way, that is)

    Ollie,

Not what I wanted to hear.

After reading a similar story to mine on a forum I uninstalled Add.Service, but BatteryOptimizer still came back.

I wonder what mades these cretins think it's ok to be a pest. If I could ever find out who developed Battery Optimizer and/or who is responsible for it downloading to my phone I would make a point of not buying any of their products, as well as seeing what I could do to stop them, permanently.

That looks like it's either downloaded from the Browser or Play Store. Have you browsed any suspicious websites?

All I can say is that I don't think I have.

The only things I can suggest would be to download LBE privacy guard and or remove all apps that you have downloaded. LBE allows you to see what apps are accessing what permissions and then allow or deny each one on a case by case basis. I am not sure how well it works on stock devices.

Quick Update: Problem seems to have fixed itself; no idea how or why.

I've been quiet the past few days because after BatteryOptimizer downloaded itself six times on 20th August I have not received any more downloads.

Since the 20th I've been doing the same browsing that used to regularly see BatteryOptimizer download to my phone but so far, so good...

Thank you Ollie and Ventus for your suggestions, much appreciated.

So basically now, it's fingers crossed.
