MMS showing at top of messages thread?

Hi guys,

I recently got my phone back from the company I got it from and they'd rooted the phone, wondering how I can get it back to the stock firmware for starters (total noob when it comes to tech stuff!)

And secondly all my MMS messages are now coming through at the TOP of my messages thread so that I have to scroll through all messages to get to the top!! And if I get a message in the middle of scrolling I end up down the bottom again.

I have no idea how to fix this and it's driving me a bit mental?

I've checked in the message settings however can't find anything that might be relevant?

Hello. Is this the stock SMS app?

If you aren't afraid to lose any of your texts then you could try navigating to Settings, Applications, All and then scrolling down to your SMS app. Select it and then clear data/cache.

Or if it is not feasible you could check out much better SMS apps from the Market like GoSMS or Handcent.

Yes it's the stock SMS app - I did have handcent on there but it was screwing up so I went back to the boring old SMS app.

I'll try that, however it's just been factory reset so I don't understand it.

And this morning none of my texts are showing up at all, they are going through since I'm getting replies, but they aren't showing up at my end. Nor are any of the replies I'm getting and if they weren't showing up in the status bar I'd never know what was typed!!!

I'm ready to throw the damn thing out the window...

Quick update: I tried to go into applications > all > messages > clear cache

However the action is blocked out so I can't choose it.

Have you tried rebooting your phone?

Also check your APN settings under wireless and networks, more. Match them to your carrier to see if they are correct.

I've tried rebooting, taking the battery out, etc.

I've reinstalled handcent and messages are now coming through ok, but they no longer show up in received order. I don't get it!!

Is there a setting in Handsent that modifies the received order? I haven't used Handsent in forever. I use GoSMS.

There is the received settings, however nothing in there to change the order that I've found?

Do you have Samsung Kies installed on your PC? If so make a backup in Kies of your phone and then perform a factory data reset on it. Afterwards restore from your backup and test it again.

Your phone may or may not be detectable if whomever rooted it did not leave the firmware stock ie they installed a custom rom.

If that is the case then you can use MyBackup Pro from the market and then factory reset the phone from within the phone's settings app. Then restore from MyBackup Pro once you reinstall it after the wipe.
