Reinstalling exchange service (or the whole OS if neccesary)

    Hi guys!

I've been googling around a lot over the last week trying to figure our how to reinstall/repair the activesynch service, but have not been able to find a solution to my problem. I also asked about this over at android.net, and got a tips that I should ask here instead..

First, here's what happened: Last week, we had some problems with the Exchange server at work, and to ease the load, the admins simply blocked synching in the firewall. My phone didn't like this, so it was constantly jamming with me with error messages about the synch, it literally became warm and the battery was drained in a couple of hours. I tried turning off synching in Accounts and synch, I changed the exchange profile to only do manual synchronization and I rebooted the phone, but it just kept going on. Finally I figured if I simply disable the exchange service, it will stop, and so I did... the problem is that when I did this, the whole service disappeared from the list of installed services, and was replaced by a service called "Error" that used 0 KB data, and which could not be enabled.

The result for me is that I could still read any e-mails that had been downloaded to the phone etc, and I can could change exchange synch settings in the exchange profile, but it did not actually perform the synchronization. When I chose "refresh" in the Email application, nothing seemed to happen, except for a black message box that disappeared after a fraction of a second so I had no change to see if it actually gave an error or anything.

As I had not yet installed the latest Android update I did this, but it did not help. Also I've been looking around Google Play and the internet for a way to re-install this service but I haven't found any. Finally I tried deleting the exchange profile and creating a new one, but the creation just gets stuck at "Checking - "Checking incoming server settings". I've tried waiting for 30 minutes with no result. This also resulted in the phone deleting all contacts etc that was linked to the account, which is basically all I had..

So.. is there anyone out there who can tell me how I can completely reinstall anything exchange/activesync-related on my phone? I'd rather not buy any third party software for this as I used to be pretty happy with how it worked until it crashed..

Oh.. if you don't have a solution, could you perhaps help me with info on how to completely wipe my phone and reinstall andoid? I don't think it is sufficient to clear the settings..

Here's some info on the phone:
    Carrier: NetCom (Norway)
    Model Number: GT-I9100
Android version: 4.0.4 (when the problems started I was at 4.0.3, but have upgraded since then).
    Baseband version: I9100XXLQ6
    Kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLPT-CL941023
    Build number: IMM76D.XWLPT
    Are you rooted? No

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Reinstalling exchange service (or the whole OS if neccesary)

Since I don't use exchange I have don't have any ideas of how to fix it.

Resetting your phone to stock is simple and can be achieved four different ways:

    1. Open Samsung Kies on your PC, connect your phone to it via factory USB cable, create a backup, then choose to factory wipe it. Afterwards, restore from backup.
    2. There is a factory data reset inside of your phones Settings app. I haven't had your phone in a while, but it should be under Security or Privacy. My phone lists it under Backup and Reset.
    3. You can boot your phone into recovery mode and perform a factory data reset from there. Recovery mode is Volume Up+Home Button+Power Button held together until the phone reboots. Scroll down using the volume keys and make selections with the Home Button.
    4. You can manually flash your regions stock Samsung firmware via your PC using a program called Odin 1.85.

    Thank you, Ollie!

I will give that a shot over the weekend and let the forum know the result.
