Failed firmware upgrade

Hi, I'm new.

My husband has given me his Samsung S2, and he decided to update it to the lastest OS for me.

Now, he didn't know he had to change the phone from "camera" to (I think) MTU - he just connected to to the PC (Win7) via USB to Kies and clicked "upgrade firmware".

At 70% the firmware installation froze, he left it a while in case it was just pausing but it didn't move. In temper he snatched the USB out of the PC.

Now the phone has "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". He tried recovery mode in Kies, but Kies failed to connect to the device.

Again in temper, he un-installed Kies off his PC without noting down the recovery code.

I've installed Kies on my laptop (WinXP) but Kies can't connect - I can't do recovery mode as Husband didn't make a note of the code.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

if you do get the phone working again my suggestion iscto avoid updating to ICS .IMHO kies is a piece of garbage. SAMAUNG should have allowed you to update OTA like you need to do with wifi onlybtabs.


BTW I am NOT a member of the rescue squad but take fro me they are a great bunchn and have helped many members out when they have any problems such as yours

hello there..My phone did the same thing .And the only way I was able to get it fixed was to send it to Samsung in Texas to get it fixes ...It only took 5 days to get it back and works like charm...give it a try....hope this helps......

So sorry, we managed to fix it in the end by using odin update? Not sure if that was the correct thing to do, but it seems to be working ok.
