Upgrade by any means, is it bad?

Hello all,

This is my very first post so please be pacient with me.
I got my SGS2 at the beginning of August last year from Vodafone Spain.

Model: GT-I9100
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: I9100BULP7
Kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100BULPD-CL672248dpi@DELL177#3
Build number:IML74K.BULPD

This is the info I got from System information.

And now my question: Vodafone Spain announced that they will not adapt the ICS 4.0.4 for their own SGS2 so that left me thinking if they will do the same with the Jelly Bean. Will I expose my phone to any risk if I will install an update not meant for it?
Can this risk be minimized? Is there another carrier in another country that has the phone similar to mine so I could use their update?
How does this work? Will Samsung Kies help?

As you can see my knowledge in this field is limited. So all info would be deeply apreciated.

Is your phone carrier locked to Voda? Like does it have a Voda boot screen and Voda bloat apps installed?

You can unlock it and run an Open Europe firmware on it by first unlocking it (there is an app in the market that does it for free) and then using Odin 1.85 to flash any Open firmware onto it.
