Hi Pete,
As suggested, I went back a version to 2.3.2.12074_13. Still, no luck. :-(

Got the same problem although it didn't happen straight away - However there is a (partial) workaround. Previous backups have been fine apart from a couple of minor glitches (trying to backup too many things at once I think).
I'm on Orange in the UK have the latest version of Kies for Windows (2.3.3.12085_7) and ICS version 4.0.4. Backup was fine before the last firmware update and because of problems in the past I opted to back up contacts and messages first. This worked fine (and quickly) but when I carried on and selected Schedule, To Do, Notes, Mini-diary and call log it comes up with the same error. Disconnecting the phone and restart of both it and Kies makes no difference.
The (partial) solution - Close Kies and remove phone battery for about 10 seconds. Replace it restart the phone and then restart Kies. Connected the phone and once Kies is up I selected backup of schedule and to-do and it worked. However when I then tried to Memo, Mini-diary and call log and it failed again. Went through the same process again but only selected Memo and Mini-diary - it worked but then selected call log it fails. Call log issue only? Don't know?
It's a Kies and or ICS problem so for a full fix will need a fix from Samsung.

Ventus, since I'm a technician, I did look long and hard at several logs I collected using Log Collector and they made no sense to me; there was nothing even remotely related to wssyncmlnps, backups, syncing or anything similar. Perhaps a developer would have more luck with the same logs?
Graham, I tried what you described and all sorts of variations of backup selections with no success. Unfortunately. I do believe the problem is with Android 4.0.4. As much as I've read about this problem, there are certainly enough people complaining about it and it's disappointing that Samsung are just offering "a hard reset will be the only way to solve these issues" as the solution when the solution was as simple as what Philipie described in his reply. Sure, Samsung's suggestion would've worked but that's not the point. It's like blowing everything away on your PC and starting fresh when a program doesn't work.
Philipie, yep, I did what you said and it worked! Backups are working again! Thank you very much! :-)
Thanks to everyone who replied.

I have just had the message come up on my phoe and then found by selecting a 2 or 3 items at a time to back up it worked aklthough this is very frustrating and I am using ice cream sandwhich on my S2
Hi
I'm new here, but thought I'd share a solution to the Kies back-up problem
I have had trouble with back-ups "preparing" forever, and then crashing.
But, I have all along used a freeware program called MyPhoneExplorer (have been using this since my SonyEricsson T650i days) and it work splendidly.
Only thing is, you must turn on the "USB Debugging" mode
Check: Settings -> Developer Options -> USB Debugging
Never had trouble with this p
Hi Philipie,
Your idea to clear all data from the LogsProvider is just great! I've tried this and finally - after so many errors - it works!
Thank you very much
hey philipie
great suggestion, it worked for me as well, so I could backup my phone prior to installing the new firmware!
could you tell us as well what data we are actually deleting when you hit "clear data" for the LogsProvider?
Hello all.
I too had this annoyance...
But, I think I've found (maybe) a solution:
1. backed-up LogsProvider via Titanium Backup (the licensed if it matters)
2. Went - as written earlier by philipie: Applications -> settings -> apps -> all -> LogsProvider. Choose LogsProvider -> clear data
3. tried backing up via KIES -- success,
4. Restored backup and voiulla -- Working again...
Is any one else try and verify its working I'll be thankfull.
