Samsung Galaxy S2 message "Firmware Upgrade Encountered an issue" and won't boot up

I was informed that I needed a firmware upgrade when I plugged my phone into my pc, so I spent all this time backing everything up first (thankfully), and then proceeded as directed. Right at the end of the 30+ min upgrade, it said it couldn't proceed (can't recall the exact wording), and told me to remove the battery, then replace it, then try the upgrade again. When I did this, the phone said "Firmware upgrade encountered a issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again". However, the pc cannot seem to connect to the phone now, and I'm about to lose my mind. I am on call this weekend and need this phone back up and running asap. I tried the battery/sim card removal, and I tried holding the volume up and the volume down key while pressing and holding the on/off button, and then releasing the on/off button while holding the volume up/down buttons, but nothing. Please please help!

note: all F-bombs have been removed from this message, but they were in there...

Hi Heather - welcome to the forum. If you're still experiencing problems with your phone, do what Ollie suggested and provide us with your carrier and what country you're located in. That's a starting point for him diagnosing the problem and giving you a solution.

Hello! Are you familiar with Odin?

AT&T has two versions of the S2. Which one do you have?

Do you have to be rooted to use Odin software??? I'm about to try it but was just wondering

    edit:

    I'm working with a Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777
    Carrier is AT&T

I can get into the ODIN Mode
    It says.....
    ODIN MODE
    PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I777
    CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
    CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL

    Downloading...
    don't turn off target!!

OR I CAN GET INTO THIS MODE

Firmware Upgrade Encountered An Issue.....with the Yellow Triangle with Caution Sign

No, Odin does not require root. It is a software that is used to flash firmware, modems, and kernels onto your phone.

Odin mode is the proper mode...

I will link you to the proper firmware and instructions.

Here is your firmware. Download it and unzip it one time using 7zip or WinRar to a place you can easily find: Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: I777UCLE5_I777ATTLE5_ATT.zip

Download Odin 1.85 and unzip it once as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...3&d=1304094576

    Then follow these instructions:
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery in Kies and try again
