Oops. Looks like I edited my post right AFTER you posted, John.

Everything's up and running. Grabbed the free version of TitaniumBackup and just backed everything up to my PC.

    Thanks!!

Glad you succeeded. Good luck with your phone ... and thanks to OLLIE for his input.

Odin will not recognize my phone. I am holding down the volume keys (in the middle) when i plug it in. My phone goes into download mode...but nothing happens on Odin. I check PDA and find the .tar file and start...I get a message that says <OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0/ failed 0)
I unplug my phone (still in download mode...because after an hour it never restarted) and restart it the way you said (power and volume) and I get a funny screen (not red on black...blue/green) where I select the file, in the phone, but it says the signature is wrong, and it never roots! I know this isn't your fault, but I was hoping you might have some ideas. BTW, I did select Odin to Run as Admin...no dice.

Thank you for this post though!

Oh...I do have GB...my phone has Kies and I uninstalled Kies from my laptop.

So sorry you are having difficulty. Also, sorry to say I am not qualified to troubleshoot. I simply put together the tutorial based on what worked for me. I expect Ollie or one of the other gurus to enter this thread and help you out. Have faith. I wish I could help you .. but do not despair. These guys are nothing short of terrific.

Unhappy It is not working on my phone.

Once Odin finishes I look for the Super user icon on my computer and it does not pop up. is it because i cannot make odin an administrator??

I really don't know, but you should RIGHT CLICK on the desktop ICON and then left click RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. If you did not do that, I suggest you start over and this time do it that way. I am no expert on this stuff .. I simply assembled a tutorial with help from the GURUS of this site ... and it worked (for me). They very well MAY reply to this with more advice .. they are great people .. and I would not be surprised.

    EDIT: Clarity

The Super user icon appears on your PHONE screen, .. as I recall.

Absolutely perfect tutorial. Similar to the OP, I was sick of the bloatware hogging up this phone's resources. With a good amount of trepidation I gave this a shot. Couldn't have asked for better instructions - superb job, worked flawlessly.

Big thanks for documenting the steps for those following behind you, it's much appreciated.

Why, thank you dtjb. All the thanks go to the gurus of this forum. This phone doesn't even belong on this website .. yet they supported me TO THE MAX and helped me entirely. In fact, this was my FIRST Smartphone and I knew absolutely NOTHING.

I am delighted you (and others) have been helped out.

I might mention ... for some reason I am not too certain of, I was advised to NOT uninstall aps .. but to 'freeze' them instead. I think it somehow prevents problems 'down the road'.

Anyway .. glad you are served ... and thank you for the kind words.

    Edit: Correct spelling.

    Hi,

I have the downloading "Do not turn off target" now for 2 hours. How long is it normally take?
Should I leave it? or disconnect it?

    Thanks!
