    Taking the Root plunge

    Hey all,

I think I've waited about as much as I can for froyo and will be rooting my phone. Just wanted to know one thing, I have the Total Equipment Coverage on my Verizon plan, If I root, will I be unable to get a new phone if something happens to it? IE Ive always had weird problems with past phones and they've given me new ones. I googled this and really came up with nothing..

Also, I've been reading up and would You say the best way to go about rooting is from the instructions given on this website in the hacking section? Or is there a newer better way of going about it.

I think I'm going to start it some time tomorrow if its still rainy miserable out..

    Thnx, love this forum btw!

Your coverage plan should be fine. You'll just have to restore back to stock if you take your phone in to VZ. As far as which guide to use, go with the stickied one in the RS Guides section.

EDIT: Glad your lovin' the forum! If there's anything that you think would make it more helpful, please let us know. Feel free to PM any of the mods.

I'd recommend reading all of the stickies in the RS Guides section before proceeding. Once you do, though, you'll never look back!

If you want froyo and root, this one is very simple.

True, but the manual root & flash method will give a much better appreciation for what's actually going on w/ the phone. Your choice, though.

I've done both and definitely recommend doing it manually. I had some trouble after taking the shortcut and had no idea how to fix any of it. Now that I've gone back and redone everything manually, I'm able to handle things on my own with much more success.

Edit: I still have to cry for help every so often, but now I understand the things I'm being told to do. That's the difference.

I agree the manual way is better for you to learn what's going on, but for simplicity, the all in one package is the way to go...you just push it thru odin and you're done. I went the manual way on ea28 myself and liked it better..

I was just giving him some options

Just rooted, running froyo and flashed superclean 2.8 ROM. Phone is running incredibly!! The RS guide make it nice and easy love it!

Just wondering, call me old fashioned, but can I use the Touchwiz launcher while running superclean? How would I go about doing that?
