What is reinstalling my apps after flashing

So I've been flashing 2.8 using the zip file in CWM recovery. I've been redoing it for various reasons.

On this last flash (reset/wipe/wipe) and I noticed that I still had my wallpaper. But that is not my issue but might be related.

On this last flash when I rebooted all my apps started reloading in the background. What process is doing this? Is it because on a previous flash I enabled the 'backup' thing in the Google setup? And then on the next flash it started restoring my apps? It's either that or Market because I haven't reinstalled Titanium Backup yet.

The fact that my wallpaper was still 'set' I'm flashing again and doing more wipes before installation. We'll see how it goes this time.

But any info on this automatic restore of a apps would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Yeah it's setting google to enable backups. This time I didn't say OK when prompted and my apps are not reinstalling by themselves.

Update: WRONG - my apps are still coming back.

But I did still have my wallpaper set. Which is CRAZY. Because after I reset and flashed I booted and it came up with the blank wallpaper. I restarted in recovery, and reset and cleared cache a bunch of times. But after flashing 2.8nv via CWM I have the wallpaper I set in my first 2.8 flash. I'm just going to chalk it up to one of those flashing things.

Upon reboot I chose Launcher Pro as my launcher and it came up with default settings.

Not looking for help. Just observations from a 1st time data wipe/reset flasher.

Google is reloading your apps. This is a feature of 2.2. Once you are on 2.2 the next time you do a wipe all of your apps will restore.

My droid X did that...it is a nice feature if you swap lots of different roms out and have to wipe...it can be annoying too because it kinda takes over when I like the control of doing a manual restore. I may have control issues.

I'm not crazy about that feature, either. I restore my apps w/ Titanium.

You can always go to market/my apps/and choose each one to stop the downloads. It's a pain but it works.

This is why forums are the coolest thing. I would never of thought of this, and I plan to do it for some of my apps. A good for instance is that the Market restore did not restore my TapaTalk settings. But TiBU did.

I'm looking at Market and tapping on each app and there is no setting for this.

Does this only work while the restore of apps is going on?

Yes the only way to stop it is while they are downloading and you can stop each one individually. There is a hack at xda to stop this but it is way over my level of understanding.

Came acrss this fairly straightforward method: xda-developers - View Single Post - Disabling Auto Data Restore in Froyo Help

You can avoid this by skipping account creations at first boot, just hit skip skip next skip. Then you can go into settings and make sure data backup is unchecked. This prevents automatic data backup/restore when you do log into your account. Now log into your Google account. During setup it will ask if you want your data backed up, make sure to uncheck that! It actually comes up with a message that asks if you really want to delete existing backups on Google servers? Of course you do want it to so this won't happen again.
