wanting to get froyo, having much difficulties!

Ok, I followed the instructions, I used odin, powered off then into the download..this is what odin screen says..
    added!
    odin v.3 engine
    file analysis
    setup connection
    initialization
    get PIT for mapping
    firmware update start
    recovery.bin
    removed!!
    completed
    all threads completed
So my first question, was that a success, did I want to get rid of recovery.bin?
second, when it is supposed to start downloading update.zip I get a droid man with ! above his head...when I hit the button to the left of home I got all the install errors.

    as follows:
    Opening update package
    verifying update package
E: Failed to verify whole file signature
    E: Signature verification failed
    Installation aborted

and it says this 3 x due to the fact I tried it 3 x, any help would be extremely appreciated..

Thank you in advance for your time..

had this same problem the first rings I tried downloading a rom. you don't have clockwork recovery installed I believe. find one of the other threads that tells you how to install it and follow the instructions then try exactly what you just did again but it will work this time.

need any more help just holler and I will do my best

    So you are rooted, correct?

Sounds like clockwork recovery isn't installed properly.

You're trying to get froyo (EB01) installed?

Try this: In this thread, you'll find full Odin files that will flash the ROM, kernel, recovery, and radio for you, all in one Odin flash. Choose which you want (basically boils down to bloated or not) flash in Odin using PDA, done. You will lose all data.

Also, on a side note, for now I would avoid using ROM manager for anything other than renaming backups. Everything else I would recommend doing manually, at least until ROM manager starts playing nice with our recovery.

EBO1_DXC.tar is downloading now, so this package has everything I'll need to get froyo running?
I am a bit confused as to where these files go on the sd card, I just put update.zip in there amongst all the folders and I got all the above error messages. What exactly is the "root" Dir? Don't have one named root, should I create one?
and one other thing, my contacts will be saved via google or that antivirus program I have (Lookout) is there somethings else I should do to back up everything how it is in case I need to revert back for warranty issues??
    Thanks a million!!

It doesn't go on the SD crad at all. It gets flashed via Odin using your computer.

If you want to return to stock, there's Odin files for that. The root directory isn't something you create, it's the base directory that everything else is in. If you're trying.to put something on the root of the SD card, just drop it on your SD card and don't put it in any folders. The root directory is the directory everything else is in. Like, when you're on your phone, applications are
