Apps I don't open but end up running in the background...

When not in use, I like to keep my phone running as lean as possible. Meaning I keep all applications closed unless I absolutely need them in order to get the best possible battery life I can. In order to keep from going through too many steps, I have a shortcut on one of my home pages that lists all "Active applications" and I can just click on that to close one or all of them. However, there's another section you can go to check on applications running in the background, those that won't normally show up under Active Applications. When I go into "Settings", "Applications", "Running Services", I always find a bunch of apps running that I never started to begin with. For example, it's not running now but I've never used (nor do I intend to use anytime soon) Skype, Gtalk and other various apps that are open in the background. I'm not sure so I thought I'd throw it out here to see if anyone could give me a definitive answer....does this have to do with certain "Permissions" from other apps that are running? I brought this up in a thread the other day where I asked if anyone was concerned about the unlimited access so many of these apps have on our phones. I assume this issue is somehow connected with that?

The apps that you find running arent hurting anything. Android phones are built to multi-task. I wouldn't worry about the apps running. If you have a task killer I would delete it. You wind up using more battery working with that.

I just can't understand why I often find apps like skype running in the background when I haven't turned them on.

Yeah, I've been wondering the same thing. Haven't found a good answer yet. If anyone has any idea why this happens, please speak up. Thanks.
