I'm running stock Samsung ICS downloaded from Kies. I think I've been making this out to be harder than it is but I just want to make sure I don't have an issue. I'll give it a go tonight if I have time. Thanks for the info and guidance Ollie.

I have to say you are a treasure in this forum and I'm glad you're here.

You are most welcome and it is really easy once you get your feet wet a few times.

Just remember if it is a tar file it goes in Odin. If it is a zip file it is flashed with your recovery.

Well, I sent you a PM hoping to catch you because I was in process, sitting at my computer with my phone in recovery mode, but time was short and I saw that you had logged off almost immediately after I sent the PM so I went ahead anyway.

I couldn't find where to wipe just "cache" I found "wipe dalvik cache" and "wipe cache partition". I didn't know what "wipe cache partition" meant exactly so I didn't do it. I just wiped the dalvik cache and found the place where you wipe extweaks and then flashed the kernel and rebooted. Everything seems to be working just fine. I hope the fact that I didn't wipe the cache the XDA dev was talking about and you seemed to understand doesn't become a problem later some how. I don't know how to truly test the kernel to know for sure whether or not my battery life improves but I'll just use it like usual and see how it goes.

You can always go back in and do the wipes and flash the kernel again just to be sure.

And that is the test of any kernel...time. If your kernel supports Over and Under Clocking then you can Underclock your CPU and it will definitely save battery. You just have to find a sweet spot of speed vs battery savings that is acceptable to you. I use SetCPU to Underclock my S3.
