If you look at the inside of the back of the OtterBox you can see a thin rubber or foam backing that stops before it reaches the speaker hole. Obviously this will leave a small gap that will allow sound to travel inside the case and straight to the mic. Working with Ollie's suggestion i took a piece of thin adhesive backed rubber that i happened to have in my odds drawer and stuck it around the speaker hole of the OtterBox. This seems to have done the trick
FAILURE. This worked for a short while then the problem returned. It is definitely the Otter. The only solution is to get a different case.

A big part of the problem is the phone itself, not the cases. To eliminate it completely you actually have to take the phone apart, apply the fix internally, and then reassemble it.

Having the gap in the otterbox isn't helpful either I would imagine.

That is a bit of a scary proposition.....opening up the phone and reassembling it. What is the difficulty factor. I would hate to open it up (assuming i could figure out how) and not be able to put it back together.

It is actually very simple. There may be a slight difference depending on which Model you have.

Thankyou for the info and that link. There is a lot of brilliance there. We can all fix our own stuff but some of us need guidance with pictures:including myself. I have ordered a new case. If that fails i'm opening that sucker up.

You are quite welcome. Most phones are a pain to disassemble, but Sammy did right by that phone. My Note is easy to take apart as well.

I had this exact same issue. This patch was made for the T898 Samsung SII, but I flashed it to my Skyrocket and it is working as intended. I can finally have my case back on and not have to worry about removing each time I get a call because of in-call echo.

    Thanks ugk!
Had a buddy who had the same echo problem with his fascinate. He changed cases and the problem was fixed. For some reason certain cases do cause an echo on a number of devices.

Where is this noise suppression exactly placed in the menu?

I have tried to look it up under settings ---> device ---> call

I just got the phone so I am pretty new. My girlfriend and I have the samme issue, we both have a case on. We have tried to take it off and turn down the speaker and it's still the same. I have a friend who had the same issue, He sent it off for service and they said that Samsung are aware of this problem and that the issue has something to do with the microphone. They changed his microphone and his phone works fine.
