Airplane mode not checked but "on"!

When I try to make a call, I get a message "Airplane mode on. Turn Airplane mode off to make calls."

But Airplane mode isn't checked as "on," and when I try to enable it, nothing happens. I've had the phone for about 6 months, and this is the first time this has happened. It's Skyrocket i727, by the way

    Help!!!

    Airplane mode fixed

Thanks. The Samsung help group had me do a "soft turn-on (off?)" of taking the battery out for 30 seconds, and that got things back on track. I'm new to cell phones, but this seems to be the equivalent of turning off the computer hard drive and restarting when things don't work.

    Thanks again for your reply.

Absolutely. Rebooting clears up a lot of glitches.

I know about re-booting for computers, but didn't know that the same idea works for Androids. Now I know to try that first!

As you can probably tell, I'm new to these phones. Couldn't believe that how to answer the phone was on page 46(!) of the non-printed owner's manual.

Thanks for your help and support.

Re: Airplane mode not checked but "on"!

I was new to Android as well when I had your version of the phone last year. I enjoy discovering new things so it was right up my alley. I have never looked at an owners manual. I hit up the web instead

Technically, phone are mini-computers. It's the software and hardware that restrict real computing.

As I tell many folks, there is rarely anything wrong with powering the phone down and removing the battery while not connected to a computer. This ensures all power is removed from the phone. Capacitors will eventually dissipate their chargers. I usually recommend a power off because Android can "shut down properly" as opposed to just pulling the battery. I don't really know if it makes a difference, but it gives me warm fuzzies inside.

The peoper shutdown ends apps properly thereby saving phone data whereas pulli ng the battery may kill data if different schedulers are used (cfq, sio, bfq)
